On to Day 2....

Our morning started with a deluxe breakfast at our hotel that consisted of make-your-own waffles...ha. We drove into Washington today to visit the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. We were the first in line of course and had an awesome parking spot right outside the museum (perks of going on a holiday). I just love the Natural History Museum. There is just so much to see and do! We watched the insects being fed, we saw some pretty cool dinosaur bones and we got to see the world's largest squid...can't beat that. We decided it was time to go when Belle decided she was going to take a nap right on the floor at the museum.
After the museum we put the girls back in the car and drove to the National Postal Museum. One of Allie-Ann's favorite books is about Owney, the postal dog and we knew from reading the book that he could be found at the postal museum (preserved, of course). So we knew this was going to be one of our stops. Well, she found him (I think she thought he was still going to be alive) tough talk later...but we saw him nonetheless. The postal museum is a pretty neat place and one that surprised me with all they had to offer for the kiddos. After the postal museum we went over to Union Station for lunch. We ate at Johnny Rockets to eat one of the original hamburgers...ha. It served it's purpose for us. Our last stop was 16th Pennsylvania Ave. to see the White House. We took a few pictures but didn't stay too long because of the protesters out front. So all-in-all, I would say we had a pretty successful day downtown. No major meltdowns and we were able to see a lot! Next stop...National Zoo!

It really wasn't that cold....really!?!
